DirecTV DVRs available in over 100 hotels

On-demand TV viewing continues to secrete itself into the fabric of your lives and now its squeezing more viewing hours out of you from hotel rooms across the US. DirecTV's HD DVRs pack the typical programming guide and recording options, plus the ability for hotels to add up to 50 channels of their own content to the recorders -- meaning plenty of hotel infomercials dying to be paused, live. Fortunately, the systems also include the hygienic touch of an anti-microbial remote. Classy.

Cloud Emailer Mailjet Hits 1 Billion Emails Sent, Launches Apps For Tracking Emails In Real Time

mailjet-mobileMailjet, a cloud emailing service for tracking marketing and transactional emails, has just launched a mobile application for its business customers offering real-time email tracking. Within the mobile application, users can monitor email deliveries, plus keep an eye on metrics like bounces, opens and clicks. The company, which just rolled out a new version of its platform a couple of weeks ago, is also announcing today that it nearing 1 billion emails served. For those unfamiliar with Mailjet, the startup is taking on more established and VC-backed players like SendGrid, Postmark, and Mailgun, to name a few. The service targets businesses who need to buy or rent SMTP email servers, by offering a cloud-based solution. Emails sent out through Mailjet are tracked in a number of ways, including through the use of specialized links, transparent images that tell Mailjet how many times it was displayed, through the analysis of SMTP exchanges for bounces and deliveries, and more.

Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE listed as 'coming soon' on Bell Canada's site

Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE listed as 'coming soon' on Bell Canada's site

Just a couple of days ago, Canadian carrier WIND quietly outed its soon-to-be Nokia Lumia 710, and now it's Bell's turn to follow suit by teasing an upcoming device of its own. Unlike WIND, however, Bell isn't flaunting a Mango-flavored handset, but instead a Gingerbread-loaded Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE. As you may have guessed by the "LTE" stuffed in its relatively long dub, this Sammy slab will be able to surf through the Mobility network's Long Term Evolution waves. Sadly, the product page isn't showing us just how much cash you'll have to unleash, or how "soon" we can expect it to hit shelves around the True North. No worries, though, since Bell does have a signup page waiting for you to kindly place your name on it.

Every year, Time magazine rounds up the 100 most impactful people of the past 12 months, and this year's 100 Most Influential People in the World list is eclectic and all-encompassing, featuring A-listers from politics, sports and, of course, entertainment.

The list rounds up the 100 Most Influential People who "inspire us, entertain us, challenge us and change our world," according to Time. In addition to getting a slot on the list, the honorees also get a blurb written about them by an admiring celebrity. Athletes including Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin made the cut, as well as politicians President Obama, Hillary Clinton and Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

Entertainers on the list include comedians Louis C.K. and Chelsea Handler, as well as "Saturday Night Live" star Kristen Wiig. "Her first screenplay — insightful, brave, groundbreaking and also hilarious," Judd Apatow noted about her work on the Oscar-nominated "Bridesmaids." He added that her work as a funny lady was never a comment on gender, writing, "She never thought she was making a statement about women in comedy."

Rihanna also made the list, with fashion designer Stella McCartney writing, "She's one of the coolest, hottest, most talented, most liked, most listened to, most followed, most impressive artists at work today, but she does it in her own stride."

Pink honored Adele in the issue, noting, "Her success renews hope in me that the world I live in has good taste — that we still occasionally come back to what's simple, and simply amazing."

Other A-listers recognized by the magazine include actresses Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain, Tilda Swinton and Claire Danes and super-producer Harvey Weinstein.

Samsung reportedly axes Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 production to add quad-core CPU (update: not true)

Samsung reportedly axes Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 production to add quad-core CPU

This is, well, a little strange. The fine folks over at Netbooknews are reporting that Samsung has ended production on the GT P5100 -- better known as the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. The story comes courtesy of an unnamed "Korean Samsung insider" who claims the device is getting upgraded to a quad-core CPU. Whether the chip in question is the much lauded 32nm Exynos 4412, which packs not only four Cortex A9 cores, but four Mali 604 GPU cores as well, is unknown. It's also not clear how this is going to affect US launch plans. Rumors are the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be getting a similar brain transplant before hitting the market. Sadly, all we can do right now hold our breath and wish real hard that both will hit shelves sooner rather than later and with an extra pair of cores in tow. Sammy better get a move on too if it's gonna have to give Uncle Sam another crack at this slate.

Update: Samsung reached out to us to confirm that the above report is not true. The US version of this tablet will still have a dual-core CPU and it's still shipping on May 13th, with pre-orders starting on May 4th.
