Goa is the smallest state of India and the fourth least populated region in the country. Goa is best known for its beaches and basically as a beach destination. Quite obviously, it earns most of its earnings from its tourism industry. The peak season in Goa is during the months of November, December, January and February. Even the flavour of Goan food has a tinge of Portuguese flavour in it.

Goa attracts tourists from all over the world with its lethargic atmosphere and delectable seafood. The culture of Goa is of course very different from that of any other part of the country. Old Goa is a very important place for Catholic Christians because in his region the great St Francis Xavier was buried. In fact apart from the very famous Goan Christmas and New Year celebrations, Goa is also known for its festival of the Feast of St Francis. The coastline of Goa extends from the north to the south and has many Goan beach towns lined along it. Most famous among these are Baga and Calangute and the comparatively less popular ones are the beaches of Arambol, Candolim and Palolem.

Panaji is the state capital of Goa but it does not have an airport. The airport of the state is situated 29 kilometers away from the state capital in a region known as Dabolim. Since Goa is a coastal region, it stays hot and humid for most part of the year and therefore visiting the city during off-season might not be a great idea. There are a number of Hindu temples in the region known as Ponda which people believe were built between the 15th and 18th centuries.
